The Writing On The Padded Wall

Dedicated to discussing the craft & industry of dramatic writing, maintaining mental health, and the unsurprisingly large overlap between the two. Oh, and maybe some Beatles trivia.

My friend Joe (one on the left, seen here in May of 1987, wearing his tux far more naturally than the other kid) has his birthday today, which makes him two months and two days older than I am, as I never tire of reminding him. What I don’t say as often - because I don’t need to - is that it’s appropriate that he’s older, because, since the Eighth Grade, he has been one of the people I look up to most. His intelligence, humor, integrity, and open, generous soul are a tremendous example for everyone in his life. He’s also surprisingly quick on the draw with gifs for an old man. Thankfully, he’s still putting up with me and continues to lead by example, not unlike his favorite baseball player, Thurman Munson. If anyone deserves a happy birthday, it’s Joe.
